THE population of the tiny South Australian town of Lucindale just
about doubled overnight when about 400 caravanners arrived recently.
Australian Caravan Club members with 201 rigs converged on the town for
their week-long eighth National Muster.
Club official Lionel Mussell said local clubs and businesses "came to the
party and gave the ACC wonderful support".
The event was held at Yakka Park, home of the famous Lions Club Field
Days.
A highlight was the signing of an agreement between the ACC and insurers
Insuret, formalising an insurance scheme that will see members receive substantial discounts and other benefits when they sign up for an RV
policy.
Lucindale State School Choir sang at the opening ceremony, which kicked
off a packed programme of muster activities.
These included speakers, sporting competitions, evening entertainment and
trips to local attractions such as the Naracoorte Livestock Exchange and a
timber harvesting operation.
A 'Charity Afternoon' heard a speaker from Beyond Blue ‒ a national
initiative to raise awareness and help people suffering anxiety and
depression ‒ and a collection made a substantial donation to the charity.
Mr Mussell said there were many 'Happy Hours' and music by
talented club members,
"The members of the three South Australian branches and the organising
committee did a fine job and this was acknowledged with a standing ovation
during the closing ceremony," he said.
Work has already begun on organising next year's annual muster and annual
general meeting, will be held at Beaudesert in South East Queensland.
