A SHIPMENT of the latest caravans from European manufacturer Adria will arrive in Australia this month.

Apollo Motorhome Holidays took over the importation and distribution of the popular brand from RV Asia Pacific in March this year.

RV Asia Pacific, part of the large Grand Motors group, had been importing the lightweight caravans for seven years but revealed it would "cease to exist" after the handover.

General manager Chris Swann told Caravanning News at the time: "We have not been forced into this, but it has been difficult to maintain a profitable operation."

Executives from Adria's head office in Slovenia have already visited Australia to ensure all dealers and support services will remain in place.

Apollo business development manager Peter Eller said more than 1000 Adria caravans had been purchased since the brand was introduced to Australia in 2007.

Adria had gained "respect and loyalty" in the market due to its products' durability and comfort, he said.

"Adria is unique in the European-built caravan market because its has adapted the product specifically to Australian conditions, and they perform beautifully on our roads."

The Australian range is built on AL-KO chassis customised to suit Australian road conditions.

They also include as standard the anti-sway coupling which eliminates the need for additional stabiliser bars.

The Altea and Adora models have won national awards including Caravan of the Year and commendation for their innovative designs at the European Innovation Awards.

Mr Eller said buyers were particularly impressed by Adria's versatile kitchens, which offered spacious drawers, gas burner cooktops, larger sized fridges and microwaves as standard.

The award-winning 2015 season of caravans were now available nationally through selected dealerships, with six unique models offering absolute comfort, safety and flexibility for lifestyle travellers.

"These caravans feature aerodynamic design with windows and skylights designed to maximise natural light, stunning bathrooms and interior finishes and a range of models and layouts to suit everyone from grey nomads to young families," he said.

"Their unique lightweight construction allows them to be towed by standard SUVs or large sedans, which provides options for a much larger market here in Australia.

The Apollo Group is the world's largest privately owned leisure vehicle operator and RV rental fleet operator in Australia.
