ORGANISERS expect strong support for New South Wales' first major caravan and camping show of the season.

The three-day Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW Expo will open at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre and Showground on February 7.

The CCIA is the state's peak industry body and represents over 400 holiday parks and over 200 product dealers and manufacturers throughout NSW.

And the Newcastle event will be the first of its four major consumer shows to be held during the year, showcasing 180 RV, camping, accessory and holiday destination displays.

CCIA chief executive Lyndel Gray said the expo had become a "pivotal event" on the Hunter and Central Coast events calendar and she expected the attendance to exceed 24,000.

"The Newcastle Expo attracts visitors from all over the Central Coast, North Coast, Hunter and Sydney areas," she said.

"The event continues to be popular because it provides the opportunity to view and compare products, prices and holiday destinations, all in the one location.

"Results demonstrate that caravanning and camping holidays in NSW are continuing to have strong appeal.

"According to recent research, visitors to caravan parks increased by 20 percent over the past 12 months."

The expo be will open from 9am to 5pm (closes 4pm Sunday), with adult tickets costing $10, senior and concession card holders $6.

Children aged 16 years and under and accompanied by a paying adult are free.
