MAJOR holiday park group BIG4 has appointed a new chief executive
officer.
Steven Wright has already spent 12 years as chief executive of high
profile organisations, including Tourism & Events Queensland, the
Australian Grand Prix Corporation and Richmond and Brisbane Lions football
clubs.
BIG4 chairman Ron Cregan said his appointment provided a "fresh approach"
to tackling the organisation's growth goals.
This would be backed up by Mr Wright's successful track record in
developing and growing companies to increase their profitability, asset
base and service levels.
"On behalf of the BIG4 Holiday Parks board, it's a privilege to announce
the appointment of Steven and welcome him as our new CEO," Mr Cregan said.
"His strong practical experience, coupled with his professional
qualifications, will be a fantastic asset to our brand.
"We are eagerly looking forward to Steven helping us grow our positioning
as Australia’s leading holiday provider."
Mr Wright took up his role on October 27, but attended BIG4's national
conference on the Gold Coast and visited a number of parks before his
first official day behind the desk.
"I’m really looking forward to this next challenge in my career," he said.
"I have previously stayed as a guest and was particularly impressed with
the quality and service provided.
"The next few weeks will give me a chance to experience a greater number
of parks from a guest's point of view, while also getting to know our park
operators."
Mr Wright said he had joined BIG4 at a pivotal time in the tourism
industry, with the recent sharp fall in the Australian dollar providing a
strong incentive for Australians to consider holidaying at home.
There was increased focus on Australia from international travellers.
"This is a great opportunity for BIG4 Holiday Parks," he said.
"One of my first priorities is looking at how we harness this, ensuring
our target audiences are aware of our fantastic key products and
offerings."
Mr Wright has a Bachelor of Economics and Law (Honours) and a Masters of
Law.
He lives in Melbourne with his wife and two young sons.
