Towns throw down welcome mat for touring caravanners

TWO small towns in northern New South Wales are throwing down the welcome mat for touring caravanners.

Walgett Shire Council is developing two primitive camping grounds for overnight or short-stay travellers.

Four sites will be available at Walgett where there will be toilets, tank water, BBQ facilities and a caravan dump point.

Another eight sites will be provided at Collarenebri, together with toilets, showers, caravan dump point and a laundry tub.

A council spokesperson told Caravanning News: "Walgett has not had a caravan park for over four years so the primitive camping ground is a great asset to the town with hundreds of caravans, motorhomes, campervans and campers travelling annually on the Great Inland Way, Kamilaroi Highway and Gwydir Highway wanting to overnight."

She said Collarenebri was also without a caravan park.

"The primitive camping ground is certainly an incentive for travellers to stop in the little town," she added.

There will be a limit of two nights' stay at each camping ground.
