Mr Ryan ... new role

Ryan appointed to new board

Once-in-a-generation shake-up provides new role for Jayco boss

Have your say

JAYCO supremo Gerry Ryan has been appointed to the board of newly created Visit Victoria.

Now the leading body for events and tourism in the state, it is the result of combining the Victorian Major Events Company and Tourism Victoria.

Its objective is to expand Victoria's calendar of major events and is the product of a once-in-a-generation shake-up of tourism and major events in the state.

It is hoped to achieve this by bringing key players together to ensure the state remains "the envy of the world".

Mr Ryan was appointed by Tourism Minister John Eren, who said the board comprised a selection of "our leading business and industry figures and brightest minds".

"We’re bringing the world's experts under the one roof," he explained. "One body with one clear plan."

The caravanning industry has congratulated Mr Ryan, whose caravan manufacturing business has snared almost 50 percent of Australia's RV market, on his appointment.

They said he would bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the board.

"I am personally looking forward to working with Gerry and Visit Victoria to shape the future of Caravan and Camping tourism in our state as we are well placed to assist in the implementation of the Victorian Government regional strategy, Wander Victoria," Caravan Industry Association of Victoria chief executive Rob Lucas said.

Meanwhile, Victorian Caravan Parks Association said it was "delighted" at Mr Ryan's appointment

Chief executive Elizabeth White commented: "Gerry has a significant track record in developing and delivering quality visitor experiences for tourists.

"We are confident he will provide the board with valuable insights into planning for growth in regional economies."

The Victorian caravan and camping industries contribute over $2 billion a year to the local economy and employ thousands of Victorians all over the state.
