CARAVANS from yesteryear will converge on a Victorian caravan park this
month for a national rally.
More than 60 of the classic 'old ladies of the road' from all over
Australia will assemble on the banks of the mighty Murray River at the
Apex River Beach Holiday Park in Cureton Avenue, Mildura, on May 10.
And taking pride of place at the five-day vintage rally, held every two
years, will be a caravan dating back to 1936.
Administrator of the online vintagecaravans.com forum Geoff Tangey told
Caravanning News that many of the vintage caravans would be towed by
period vehicles.
He said the forum was dedicated to pre-1970 caravans in Australia.
"The purpose of this forum is to communicate with other early caravan
enthusiasts, view the restoration projects of others, identify features of
the various makes of caravans and to gather information on the whereabouts
of pre-1970 caravans to assist interested people in locating them for a
prospective purchase," he added.
Geoff owns a 1961 Roadhaven bondwood caravan which he tows with a 1957
Chevrolet sedan.
