CARAVANNERS have scoffed at claims that UFOs and aliens are invading
the Northern Territory.
But locals in Australia's self-proclaimed UFO capital of Wycliffe
Well, about 380km north of Alice Springs, are convinced extraterrestrials
have been keeping a close eye on them ... even sending down space vehicles for
a closer look.

And just to emphasise the point, two model aliens sit out the front of the
BIG4 Wycliffe Well caravan park on the Stuart Highway to welcome
travellers.
Walls are also covered in UFO, planetary and night-sky murals
... not forgetting a mock spaceship and UFO warning signs.
Resident manager of the BIG4 park Lew Farkas told Caravanning News:
"There is far more to life than we understand."
He can relate many stories of UFOs zipping around the desert night sky.
"They're pretty common around here," he explained.
"In fact, we get
reports of people seeing them quite a few times every year. I am convinced
they are UFOs, though we don't know what's inside them."
But Victorian caravanner Jack Gracington maintains the claims are a load
of nonsense.
"I spend a lot of time sleeping under the stars, particularly in the NT
and I've never seen anything out of the ordinary," he told Caravanning
News. "Sure there are loads of shooting stars, but that's exactly what
they are ... shooting stars and space junk - nothing else."
The 65-year-old traveller said there was no tangible proof that aliens
were interested in Earth.
And fellow caravanner John Ballinger, of NSW, agreed. "They tell me a lot
of alcohol is consumed in the Territory ... maybe that has something to do
with all these claims.
"People have been talking for decades about visitors from outer space,
claiming to have spoken to them and even being whisked away to another
planet for a while. But surely if any green men had arrived here they
would have made themselves known generally to us all by now."
But Mr Farkas is truly satisfied there are visitors from above and
maintains he has had several sightings during his 23 years at his 80-site,
four-star caravan park.
One involved small lights manouvring round larger ones in a kind of figure
eight pattern, the 58-year-old Australian Navy physical training
instructor said.
"I have had a close up encounter where I have actually seen the portholes
- just like you read in the comic books of the past," he insisted.
Mr Farkas said the area attracted scientists and professionals from all
over the world. "Many book in for a week but gather so much material they
leave after three days ... that must tell you something," he said.
One researcher from the UK had turned up with nothing more than something
resembling a briefcase. "It turned out to be a scientific thing which he
opened every night. Apparently it picked up pulses from space and he went
away perfectly happy," he added.
Mr Farkas dismissed claims he was only "drumming up" interest in UFOs to
boost business at his roadhouse and caravan park, saying there were plenty
of passing travellers to keep his business flowing along.
Wycliffe Well is said to be one of only four or five places in the world
where there are constant sightings of extraterrestrials and UFOs.
