Radio used to call for help

Police pluck travellers to safety after early morning snow drama

TWO tourists were rescued after their camper trailer became bogged in snow in Victoria's Alpine National Park.

Police said the New South Wales couple had to be plucked to safety in the freezing early hours of the morning after they found themselves stranded near Omeo.

The near-midnight drama began when the snow-covered track forced them to a standstill as they headed to Jindabyne.

"The pair became stuck and abandoned their camper trailer and continued along the track," a police spokesperson said.

"The 4WD then slid off the side of the track and became bogged in heavy snow."

Luckily the stranded travellers were able to use their radio to call for help. A police rescue team found them three hours later at about 2am.

"They were reported to be safe and well," the spokesperson added.
