Waterfront site at Great Lakes: set your own price!

Guests have final say on price

Site too dear? No problem, just pay what you want!

Have your say

AS caravan park fees continue to soar, one go-ahead operator is encouraging guests to pay only what they consider a powered site is worth.

BIG4 Great Lakes at Forster-Tuncurry in NSW has taken the bold move of allowing campers to set their own price during August.

The Pay What You Want promotion has already sparked interest amongst caravanners keen for a getaway before the busy spring and summer holiday periods.

Although offering guidance on the usual price of the sites, it ultimately allows guests have the final say and decide how much they are prepared to pay to stay at the multi-award winning property.

Located on a peninsula overlooking Wallis Lake, the park enjoys one of the most naturally beautiful areas in the state.

Manager Margaret Shannon is looking forward to welcoming travellers.

"We are excited to be able to provide a first-class camping and caravanning experience, with an affordable price-tag, in one of the best holiday locations in the state," she said.

"While we believe most customers will pay a fair rate for their sites in recognition of the great service and facilities we offer, we feel it is important to give people an opportunity to stay without feeling under financial pressure.

"Whether it be a family weekend away or a couple stopping in for a week, the important thing is to relax and have an enjoyable holiday. Hopefully this initiative will allow people to do that."

The BIG4 Great Lakes team is enthusiastic about the regional tourism product, with the Great Lakes part of the new Mid Coast Council area offering a range of experiences.

These range from whale watching, coastal walks, kayaking, local produce and winery tours, white water rafting and fishing.

The idea of people being able to pay what they want is not a new phenomenon, with restaurants, music artists and fashion retailers having used the pricing mechanism in the past.

But it is not a promotion often found in the holiday park or accommodation industries.

The promotion at the BIG4 Great Lakes is valid to all bookings from August 1 to 31 with no restriction on the number of nights or sites, though it is only available to guests booking direct with the property.

They will also be able to set their price for cabins, with a very low floor price of $70 set as a starting point.
