New policy brings Tasmania into line with other States

Apple Isle peels away multi-vehicle concessions

PENSIONER caravanners in Tasmania will no longer be able to enjoy multi-vehicle registration concessions.

The State Government has announced it is limiting cheap registrations to either one motor vehicle, caravan, trailer or motorcycle.

Minister for Infrastructure Graeme Sturges said the change would bring the Apple Isle into line with other States where, in most cases, a concession is only applied to one vehicle.

"Currently, pensioners can register any number of vehicles, including motorcycles, caravans and trailers," he said. "This can also include vehicles they do not own and there is a risk of concessions being given to people who are not entitled."

Letters are being sent to eligible pensioners with two or more vehicles asking them to nominate the vehicle they wish to receive the concession.

The new policy coincides with the launch of the Government's new Motor Registry System.
