Boom times as young families turn to RVs

  Have your say

CARAVAN sales at this year's NSW Caravan, Camping, RV and Holiday Supershow in Sydney reached all time high, with many exhibitors experiencing their most successful year yet.

A record number of visitors – a phenomenal 17,474 – flocked to the show during its second day, reportedly affording the event the crown for the largest crowd numbers ever recorded on a single day at any state caravan and camping exhibition.

Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW chief executive officer Barry Baillie attributed the success to the industry's significant growth over the past 15 years.

"The caravan and camping industry is the fastest growing domestic tourism sector in Australia," he said.

"Increased interest from younger demographics was evident at this year's Supershow and this is due to holiday-goers, particularly young families, recognising the benefits and value of caravan and camping holidays."

More than 80,000 visitors flooded into the show at the Rosehill Racecourse, reflecting a booming caravan and camping industry.

Despite recent reports of flat retails sales generally, the industry has continued to defy trends as many of the higher priced items such as caravans and motorhomes sell in record numbers.

Caravan sales at the Supershow were at an all time high, with many jubilant exhibitors chalking up record sales.

Motorhome dealers also reported record vehicle sales, and increasing demand for camper trailers was also prominent.
