Family company in Demand, and it's . . .

Paradise in paradise as waiting times slashed

A FAMILY-owned Queensland motorhome manufacturer is in paradise after its new factory boosted production times to record levels.

Gold Coast-based Paradise Motor Homes managing director Colin MacLean said the move to the new facility had dramatically slashed the waiting time for new motorhomes from almost two years to between three and six months.

Inside Paradise: the company's new facility

Inside Paradise! The company's new facility.

"I started the business with my wife Libby five years ago when we could not find a motorhome on the market that provided the space and luxury features we wanted," he said.

"We wanted it all - a motorhome that was easy to drive with a car licence, had lots of living space and had the same luxuries you would find at home.

"We were not prepared to climb over each other to get into bed and we did not want to shower with the toilet in the same confined area."

Libby MacLean said the reason Paradise Motor Homes had proven popular was because most people, especially women, wanted practical living and user-friendly features.

"I know some blokes would be quite happy to go away in a ute with a tarp but every smart man understands the principle of 'happy wife, happy life'," she said.

Mr MacLean said the unprecedented demand for Paradise motorhomes had seen the company expand its operation five times over the past five years.

"We have even had orders from people as far away as Canada and Europe," he said.

He believed the dedication to research and development and the personal touch was behind Paradise Motor Homes making such a big impact on the market.

"Most of our motorhomes can be driven with a car licence and have more living space and better luxury features than large truck-based motorhomes. We have been able to achieve this by developing lighter, stronger and better insulated motorhomes with a slide-out," Mr MacLean said.

"The 'Liberation' model is testament to the company's success in superior construction with slide-outs; it features an amazing 3m wide internal living area and the bathroom has to be seen to be believed.

"We have won eight Caravan and Motor Home Awards for excellence including Motor Home of the Year three times. To provide a car licence motorhome with an island queen bed, separate toilet and shower is unrivalled in the industry.

"It's a little ironic Paradise Motor Homes is now located in Demand Avenue. I guess you could say this little Queensland family-run company is in a demanding position."
