A WEST Australian waterfront caravan park is powering on to ensure
guests enjoy their stay.
Electricity supply issues have plagued the picturesque two-and-a-half star
Denmark Rivermouth Caravan Park, 414km south-east of Perth, in recent
years.
But a Royalties for Regions grant is helping park proprietor Noel Phillips
to safeguard power supplies for caravanners.
He has gained Regional Grants Scheme funding through the Great Southern
Development Commission for the cost of headworks necessary to improve the
45-site park's power supply.
"In 2008, we experienced numerous power outages, with two of them lasting
over 30 hours," Mr Phillips said.
"We needed an upgrade of powerlines from the town supply to the park. A
back-up generator will cater for any power outages and the transformer
will be renewed and upsized to cater for the growth of tourism in our
park."
Blackwood-Stirling MLA Terry Redman said the park, which operates on land
vested in the Shire of Denmark, was allocated $107,000 in the first round
of Regional Grants Scheme funding.
This was a contribution towards the substantial headworks component of the
$306,000 project.
