Bored with growing old but ...

Tea and sandwiches with drug clients

WOULD-BE grey nomad Brian Ogilvie thought his drug business would fund his longed-for caravanning trip around Australia.

But today he is behind bars ... after police discovered 1kg of marijuana he planned to sell to finance his dream stashed away in his caravan.

They also found $76,000 in cash in secret locations, including in a curtain and a Tupperware container in a straw hat hanging on a hook.

The 68-year-old told police he had become bored with growing old and was going to use the profits from drugs to become a grey nomad and travel round Australia in his caravan this winter.

Former fisherman and council worker Ogilvie, of Bowen, Queensland, appeared in the District Court in Mackay and admitted five drug-related charges, including trafficking in marijuana from October 2008 to October 2010.

The court heard how the lonely pensioner treated his customers to cups of tea and sandwiches.

Barrister Bronwyn Hartigan said Ogilvie's wife had died about 40 years ago and "loneliness" had been a big factor in the offences.

He was on anti-depressants and suffering from the early onset of dementia and vascular problems.

Judge Brian Harrison jailed Olgivie for four years, to be suspended after serving 12 months, and ordered the forfeiture of the marijuana and $76,000 in cash to the Crown.
