Penrith show dubbed the best yet

No stock market woes evident

Caravan and camping industry still strong

Have your say

CARAVANNERS appear to be shaking off reports of stock market doom and gloom, if the results of a major NSW leisure show are anything to go by.

In fact, speculation that the volatility of the stock market would affect sales at the 13th Penrith Caravan, Camping and Holiday Expo were quickly put to rest.

Organisers said it had been an outstanding success, with many exhibitors suggesting it was the best yet.

An estimated 25,000 visitors flocked to the event at Penrith Panthers last month.

NSW Caravan and Camping Industry Association chief executive Barry Baillie attributed the expo's success partly to the continued strength of the caravan and camping industry.

"It was great to see that exhibitors accommodated for the current instability of superannuation funds by providing unbeatable deals and bargains throughout the three days," he said.

Mr Baillie said this year's circumstances were similar to those of the 2008 economic downturn when caravan and camping holidays went against the trend and increased occupancy rates and product sales.

"Australians are still going on caravan and camping holidays in their droves knowing it is the best way to spend quality time with the family, enjoy a natural experience and catch up with old (and new) friends without breaking the bank," he explained.

"Aussies desire the true camaraderie that only a caravan and camping holiday can provide.

"With something for every budget and the large range of accommodation and touring options available it is easy to see why caravan and camping holidays have been the fastest growing domestic tourism sector for the past 15 years."

Over 150 exhibitors at the Penrith expo displayed all the latest models and makes of caravans, motorhomes, campervans, camper trailers, 5th wheelers, slide-ons, tents and camping equipment, caravan and 4WD accessories.

There were also stands showcasing holiday parks, tourism destinations and other aspects of the caravanning, camping and RV industry.
