THERE will be no fanfare when Australia's new peak body for the caravanning and camping industry swings into action this month.

"There will be no special ceremony on that day," a spokeswoman for the fledgling Caravan Industry Association of Australia told Caravanning News.

She said next February's World RV Conference in Melbourne would provide an opportunity to formally celebrate the commencement of the association.

"Details of this event will become available closer to the date," she added.

Resulting from the merging of the Caravan, RV & Accommodation Industry of Australia (CRVA) and RVM Australia, the new body will formally begin operations on July 12.

Chairman Mark Lindsay believes it will be both "challenging and exciting", particularly for an industry that in the past had worked together but without always agreeing.

"This is a sensational opportunity for the marketing and compliance activities of the industry to come together, allowing for unity and consistency of industry messages," he said.

The single national industry body would be well positioned to generate greater outcomes for the caravanning and camping industry.

"The ability to properly market the benefits of compliance and accreditation to consumers, media and government will feature strongly as we strive to improve product quality within the industry," Mr Lindsay said.

"This, coupled with increased consumer marketing on the lifestyle benefits of caravanning and camping designed to grow the market, means both industry businesses and consumers have a lot to look forward to."

* David de Heus has been appointed the association's General Manager – Industry Development, Compliance and Accreditation, it was announced.

Mr de Heus has served on the boards of the Caravan & Camping Industries Association of South Australia and the Caravan Trade & Industries Association of Victoria, including stints as vice president (SA) and treasurer (Vic).

The position was hotly contested in front of an interview panel comprising Mark Lindsay – CRVA chairman, Chris Goddard – director of RVM Australia, Stuart Lamont – chief executive of CRVA and Paul Hooley as an independent recruitment consultant.
