Hero 74-year-old caravanner goes to rescue

Grey nomads in knife ordeal

Roadside terror as Victorians sleep in caravan

  Have your say

TWO elderly Victorian caravanners camping overnight in central Queensland underwent a terrifying ordeal at the hands of a knife-wielding bandit.

The armed man struck at about 11pm as the grey nomads, one aged 68 and the other 69, slept in their caravan at the roadside near Clermont.

Police said they struggled with the knifeman who fled when a 74-year-old man in a nearby caravan, also from Victoria, went to their aid on Lagland Road near Fiery Creek.

The 68-year-old woman suffered minor injuries to her hands and bruising while the older man sustained a laceration to his hand which required hospital treatment.

Their attacker fled into the darkness with a small amount of alcohol.

Police later charged a 19-year-old man with two counts of armed robbery with wounding and one count of enter dwelling with intent.
