Couple's road to justice

Warranty problems leave Victorians dumbfounded

  Have your say

VICTORIAN caravanners Bruce and Veronica Mitchell, who claim they were sold a faulty brand new caravan, have taken their grouse on to Australia's highways and byways.

But not before dumping their gleaming $49,000 caravan, which they say was riddled with problems, and replacing it with another brand ... a 21ft Jayco Sterling.

The couple's warranty problems began after they took delivery of their new caravan from an Echuca dealer. They claim that despite solicitors' letters, the dealer refused to acknowledge faults with plumbing, bench tops, stove and electrics which almost set the 'van on fire.

And they accused Consumer Affairs and their insurer of also ignoring their plight.

The Mitchells finally took the case to the Victorian Civil and Administration Tribunal, but the dealer and builders refused to take the caravan back, repair it or give them compensation.

"There was no justice wherever we went," a dumbfounded Bruce told the media shortly before hitting the road to Queensland..

But the frustrated Mitchells have decided to reap a little justice by carrying signs on their Jayco warning other caravanners and travellers about warranty problems with their former caravan ... but at the same time praising their current caravan.
