Beating the opportunist thief

'Lock it or lose it' message floods caravan parks

POLICE in New South Wales have urged caravanners to be more security conscious.

Caravan parks in the state's south have been showered with leaflets warning holidaymakers to beware of thieves.

Police volunteers distributed thousands of Lock it or Lose it flyers in a bid to combat the criminals.

Far South Coast LAC crime prevention officer Senior Constable Scott White said people should not leave valuables in their vehicles, particularly when parked in beach carparks during the summer months.

Opportunist thieves targeted property such as mobile phones, cash and music players. Other items including eskies, surfing equipment and fishing gear should be secured.

Senior Constable White said police had successfully used the Lock it or Lose it message over the past few years.
