'Never seen so many caravans rolling off the ferries'

Island parks riding the crest of
a wave thanks to special offer

CARAVAN parks on South Australia's Kangaroo Island are riding the crest of a wave ... thanks to SeaLink ferries.

Operators say grey nomads and other travellers are heading for the island in increasing numbers thanks to a special offer from the ferry company and travel group.

SeaLink is transporting caravans and camper trailers to the island free of charge until the end of June. Campervans are half price.

Caravan parks have reported up to a 20 percent increase in bookings since the offer was introduced in February, while one operator said she had never seen so many caravans rolling off the ferries.

"It's great for business, and caravanners are spending more at island businesses," she said.

SeaLink’s Julie-Anne Briscoe told media the special was first introduced last year and was so successful it was extended and more widely promoted this year.
