Channel 9 film crew captures all
Story and Photos by DENNIS AMOR A FURTIVE love affair at a coastal caravan park in Queensland has been exposed ... on national television. It seems the Scarborough Holiday Village's polar bear mascot has been a long-time secret admirer of Channel 9 Today show's Muffin Man, who has been featuring daily in the morning show's weather segment.
And when weatherman Steve Jacobs and his film crew visited the 63-site park on the Redcliffe Peninsula, north of Brisbane – with Muffin Man in tow – the love-struck bear wasted no time in getting together. But their romantic tryst ended up on television screens all over Australia when an eagle-eyed cameraman spotted them surreptitiously emerging from one of the site's caravans. They were last filmed strolling hand-in-hand along the shores of Deception Bay. It was one of the humourous highlights of the outside broadcast which attracted hundreds of caravanners and locals as the on-site Channel 9 satellite dish beamed live pictures to television screens across the nation. And love was also in the air for 27-year-old Lisa Thomas, who announced to viewers that she was getting married the following day. Some of her relatives – and groom Chris Irving – later arrived at the park to overnight in readiness for the big occasion. Jacobs and his team spent the night in onsite cabins before filming at the popular waterfront park, and he later told Caravanning News: "What a stunning location. It's one of the most beautiful places we have visited ... and it was the perfect place for us to stay because it was right on location." Park co-manager Pauline Mill told us: "There was great excitement when our caravanners heard the park was going to be featured on the Today show."
