WESTERN Australia's Fleetwood Corporation, manufacturers of the Coromal and Windsor range of caravans, has clinched a major agreement with one of world's leading iron ore producers.

The Perth-based company announced it had signed a five-year contract to supply BHP Billiton Iron Ore with transportable buildings for its expanding sites throughout the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The news comes on the back of Fleetwood's record after-tax operating profit for the year ending June 30.

Profits soared 33 percent to $51.2 million compared with $38.7 million in 2010.

The business deal with BHP Billiton Iron Ore requires Fleetwood to manufacture up to 240 ancillary buildings a year, with provision to increase this amount by agreement.

Buildings include ablutions, security offices, crib rooms and administration units.

They will be manufactured at the company's High Wycombe facility in Perth.

BHP Billiton Iron Ore has operations in Australia and Brazil, selling lump and fine product from Australia and iron ore pellets from Brazil.

Its principal iron ore operations are based in the Pilbara region of northern Western Australia.

Iron ore is a major component in many modern office towers, including iconic structures around the world.

It is also used extensively in motor vehicles, washing machines, refrigerators ovens and other whitegoods.
