FreeSpirit stresses importance of housekeeping

'Housekeeping not merely a bunch of cleaners'

Stressing the importance of
the 'all guts, no glory' dept

Have your say

HOUSEKEEPING departments are the "life blood" of caravan parks, according to a leading management company.

They are responsible for the all-important first impressions of cleanliness and order, upkeep and maintenance, FreeSpirit Resort & Holiday Park Management says on its blog.

The Queensland-based company manages tourist and holiday parks all over Australia and is the holder of a major award for it outstanding contribution to training within the caravan and camping industry.

FreeSpirit's blog describes housekeeping as the "all guts with no glory" department, often looked down on as merely a bunch of cleaners.

But they played an important role in a park's reputation.

"Housekeeping is the department that determines, to a large extent, whether guests are happy during their stay and in turn, if they return to stay again or refer you to their friends," its blog points out.

"The level of accommodation and service provided to the guests determines if they are pleased with the caravan park.

"Guest satisfaction is the primary object and the cleanliness factor must always be present."

The blog says the major part of revenue comes from rooms which if are not sold on any night loses revenue forever.

"Reasons for poor occupancy may be anything like cleanliness, lack of modern accessories etc., hence the main purpose is to improve appeal of the room and always ensure cleanliness.

"As guests tend to spend more time in their room than any other part of the caravan park, he/she may do their own check on the cleanliness of their room, and they may lose confidence should these tasks not be done properly, for example if drawers are not cleaned they probably won’t want to put their clothes down."
