A WOMAN died and another was rushed to hospital after a horror blaze at a New South Wales caravan park.

It took fire crews an hour to put out the mid-evening inferno at the Oasis Caratel Caravan Park in Gorokan on the state's Central Coast.

"Emergency crews were called in response to reports that a caravan was well alight and the female resident unaccounted for," a police spokesperson said.

Firemen later found the woman's remains in the burnt out shell of the caravan.

A second woman was taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation, but later released. "She's fine now," a spokeswoman at the park told Caravanning News.

She said others at the park attempted to fight the blaze but there was little they could do.

She declined to comment further..

The cause of the fire was being investigated.
