JUST as the mythical phoenix rose from the ashes, the Golf brand name has risen from the embers of the global economic downturn.

The Queensland builder of high quality caravans since 1975, Golf Caravans surprised the industry when it suddenly closed its Lawnton factory north of Brisbane in late 2009.

Plant and equipment from the failed company was scheduled to go under the auctioneer's hammer but was snapped up by Victoria-based RV builders Avan Caravans, just days before the scheduled auction.

The sale was to have been held under the instructions of David Hambleton of Brisbane firm RE Murphy & Co., who specialise in insolvency, bankruptcy and liquidation.

Records showed he was acting "in the matter of KSE Holdings Pty Ltd (in liquidation as trustee for the Majyk Family Trust, formally trading as Golf Caravans).

The Golf name disappeared from the scene but reappeared last month at Victoria's premier Caravan, Camping and Touring Supershow at Caulfield Racecourse.

And the wind-up camper proudly sporting the Golf brand name attracted a lot of interest.

"It was such a surprise to see the Golf name again," one surprised caravanner said. "The name had always been synonymous with high quality 'vans and it was such a shock when the company folded without warning."

Avan Caravans failed to respond to a Caravanning News request for a comment.
