Tony  and Claire Height: a great opportunity

A CARAVAN park in Victoria's former gold mining town of Castlemaine is the latest recruit to the BIG4 national chain of holiday parks.

Castlemaine Gardens Holiday Park is owned by locals and former moteliers Tony and Claire Height who say they saw a great opportunity when the small yet spacious park came up for sale.

"It's a very different business to a motel as people have their doors and tents wide open for a chat and a drink – a great, friendly atmosphere where we meet interesting people all the time," Claire said.

"Castlemaine is a beautiful town which is busy, yet not overrun with tourists. There are many activities to do locally including markets, wineries, lots of interesting shops to explore, as well as a vibrant cafe culture offering so many wonderful choices when it comes to food.

"We are also a great base from which to explore a number of other historic towns in the goldfields area."

Park facilities include a range of accommodation, the Bush Hut with open fire and BBQ facilities, and a large recently renovated amenities block.

Most of its powered sites overlook the dry creek bed into the Botanic Gardens.

“Our focus is on customer service and cleanliness," Claire said. "Because we have such a spacious park we are easily able to accommodate large caravan clubs and groups."

BIG4 Holiday Park chief executive officer Terry Goodall said the park was already busy with families and retirees and provided a relaxed environment for visitors.

"We are extremely pleased to have Castlemaine on board. There is so much for park stayers to do ... from riding the historic railway to exploring the nearby towns of Daylesford and Maldon. You are guaranteed to be very well looked after too," he added.
