Victorian grey nomads
count blessings
after surviving highway smash
ROUND Australia grey nomads Vince and Carol Foley are counting their
blessings after surviving a horror smash on a remote Queensland highway.
The Victorians say they were forced off the road as another caravan
attempted to overtake their rig but was suddenly confronted by another
caravan travelling in the opposite direction.
Passers-by dragged the blood-soaked couple through their windscreen of
their four-wheel-drive which rolled after the accident 20km from
Blackwater on the Capricorn Highway west of Rockhampton.
The Foleys were given first-aid at the roadside before being taken to
hospital in Rockhampton.
Witnesses said they were lucky to escape with their lives.
Their rig and the other caravan involved were badly damaged in the smash
which closed the busy highway.
Vince, 67, and Carol, 62 – who have completed three round-Australia trips
– said they will probably now give up caravanning.
Carol told the Rockhampton Bulletin: "It's just like a film in your
head of the accident. The bang, the roll, the noise and then the quiet. It
just goes over and over and over. You just can't shut it out."
