Fridge pipes incorrectly reconnected
Repairer fined after gas blast
hurls woman through 'van door
A QUEENSLAND caravan repair business has been fined $20,000 after a gas
explosion in a couple's tourer.
Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard that gas pipes to their caravan
refrigerator were incorrectly reconnected after repairs to the floor at
Caravan Repairs Kunda Park on the Sunshine Coast.
The company, which was not licensed to carry out gas work, was also
ordered to pay costs totalling $1118 when it faced proceedings under the
Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004.
Director Bruce Edwards was also fined $10,000.
The court was told that a Beerwah couple left their caravan with the
company for repairs before embarking on a holiday.
While stocking up the 'van for their trip, they turned on the gas supply
and lit the fridge to cool it.
When the owner's wife later went to investigate a smell of gas, an
explosion threw her through the door and the caravan caught fire.
Defendants Kunda Park Radiators and Mr Edwards did not appear in court.
