Caravans parked up at Elmore
during the recent meeting |
PLANS are well underway for this year's national caravan rally, which
will see more than 500 caravans descend on a tiny Victoria community.
Up to 1500 enthusiasts are expected to flood into the agricultural town of
Elmore, north-east of Bendigo, in December for the major event of the
caravanning calendar.
More than $3 million will be poured into the local economy during the 14th
National Caravan Clubs Rally, which is being sponsored by Jayco, the City
of Bendigo and Campaspe Shire councils and Regional Development Victoria.
Held every three years on a State rotational basis, this rally is being
organised by the Association of Caravan Clubs of Victoria.
A full programme of events is planned for the gathering, to be held at the
Elmore Events Centre from December 30 to January 9, 2011. They will
include seminars, coach tours, computer training, nightly entertainers and
craft classes.
Twenty caravans recently rolled into Elmore, population around 900, for a
meeting to discuss arrangements for the forthcoming influx of caravanners
from all over Australia.

Rally promotions manager Peter Hillas said talks were held with community
groups and local businesses and there would be further meetings before the
rally.
"Everything is going very well," he told Caravanning News. "We have
not encountered any hiccups so far."
Elmore was selected because the tiny rural community already has a long
history of staging some of Australia's biggest events and field days.
"The Events Centre has sufficient space and permanent electricity for more
than 600 caravans," Mr Hillas explained. "All facilities available are as
good as we could ever hope for."
Jayco marketing director Andrew Ryan said the rally organisers' commitment
convinced his company to play a major sponsorship role, adding: "These are
the very people who truly appreciate and enjoy the holiday lifestyle that
RV ownership gives them."
