Evening raid results in two arrests

Secret drugs lab found after police swoop on park

POLICE discovered a clandestine drugs lab after swooping on a Queensland caravan park.

They found the amphetamine lab after raiding a traveller's converted bus at the three-star Riverdale Caravan Park in Bundaberg.

Scenes of Crime officers were joined by members of a State Drug Investigation Group illicit laboratory team dressed in special protective clothing and breathing apparatus.

Bundaberg CIB Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker told media that the team was specially trained to handle potentially explosive substances in amphetamine labs.

"They came up to safely dismantle the lab and package it for evidence," he reportedly said. "They deal with often volatile substances."

Caravanners watched in amazement as police cordoned off the bus and began their investigations.

Reports said a tip-off from a member of the public led to the evening raid at the 96-site caravan park in Perry Street.

Police arrested two men aged 37 and 19. It is believed one of them had been living at the park for about four months.

The park declined to comment when contacted by Caravanning News.
