NSW'S politicians have been handed a blueprint for building on the state's $2 billion caravan and camping sector.

The State’s peak industry body, the CCIA NSW, says the next state government has the opportunity to stimulate further growth.

It has now delivered its Key Issues, NSW Election 2015 document to ministers and shadow ministers, offering constructive advice on policy measures to ensure this happens.

"Last year we saw a 15 percent growth in the number of visitors using caravan and camping accommodation in NSW and we know the market has a lot of room for further expansion," president Theo Whitmont said.

"Our industry has a great affinity with the Australian way of life, and we have enjoyed considerable growth in recent years, making it now one of the fastest growing and most popular domestic tourism experiences in Australia.

"The caravan and camping sector ‒ encompassing caravan and holiday parks, manufacturers and retailers of RVs and accessories, and manufactured home villages ‒ is a vital economic contributor to the state."

Mr Whitmont said the caravan and camping industry played an important role in local communities across the state, providing economic stimulus, employment and accommodating over 28 percent of visitor holiday nights in regional NSW.

"Importantly, industry research shows that a park, on average, adds up to $1.26 million of economic value back to their local economy each year," he explained.

He pointed out that manufactured home villages offered affordable housing solutions for many people, particularly those in their retirement years.

They offered a secure environment and an active community-based lifestyle.

"With the right business environment ‒ one that works to strengthen the industry, supports its growth and ensures the quality and consistency of products and services ‒ our sector can continue to build on our considerable and proven success," Mr Whitmont said.

"As a strong economic contributor across regional NSW, the caravan and camping industry is a valuable asset to many towns and regions."

The CCIA’s key issues document was developed from feedback and advice of member businesses, and outlines a clear way to continue delivering the holiday and residential products, experiences and services required by so many NSW residents.
