March 2011

From the Caravanning News' Letter to the Editor column, March, 2011. Mr Foster was commenting on a story in the February edition on a police threat to fine caravanners who drove below the posted speed limit on Queensland's pothole-riddled Bruce Highway, which was seriously damaged after serious flooding made it impassable for days. I ATTACH a cutting (left) from a 2007 Sunday Mail which disputes the Queensland police sergeant's attitude, although he is quite smart about the statement he made. You will notice he is not charging caravanners with not driving at the speed limit ... because there is no such charge for driving at a speed under the maximum speed limit. Sen-Sgt Farbaek said culprits could cop a $100 fine or face court charged with inconsiderate driving. I would dearly love to find out if there actually is a charge called inconsiderate driving! Unfortunately, anybody being charged would probably just pay the fine. This police officer has no idea of the danger associated with towing a caravan at high speed just to pander to motorists who have no patience
