A caravan? No problem ...

Grey nomads well catered for
in planned gated development

CARAVANNERS living in a proposed gated community in a small New South Wales town would be well catered for, it is claimed.

Business couple John and Robyn Pearce has asked Cowra Shire Council for permission to build the $3 milliion development in Vaux Street, Cowra ... and provide facilities for grey nomads.

Their plan proposes 19 two and three-bedroom units for retirees on the site of their stock feeds mill, which would be demolished if and when the council gives the all-clear.

Mr Pearce, who will soon retire, told local media there was a need for a gated community to accommodate seniors wanting to retire in Cowra.

He said the development would cater for grey nomads in that it would offer three parking sites for caravans and motorhomes.

The council is expected to consider the couple's application this month.

Cowra, 300km west of Sydney, is famous for its vineyards and Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre which honours both Japanese and Australians killed in war.

More than 1000 Japanese prisoners of war attempted to escape from a local internment camp in 1944, resulting in the deaths of 231 prisoners and four Australian soldiers.
