Caravan's new lease
of life fighting fatigue

Have your say

RAY and Edwina Cameron, and their somewhat ageing caravan, are doing their bit to fight driver fatigue on NSW's Pacific Highway.

Their 33-year-old little blue caravan, pitched in the Beekeepers Rest Area 5km north of the Iluka turnoff in the Clarence Valley, has provided weary drivers with tens of thousands of coffees since its owners opened their novel business.

The location on the southbound lane is on an isolated stretch between Coffs Harbour and Tweed Heads, a renowned fatigue zone where accidents are commonplace.

"This enterprise had been received so well and we have our regulars on a daily basis," the Barista-trained couple told Caravanning News.

"We love the waves and horns beeping all day!"

Ray and Edwina have been running their Quickfix Coffee stop out of the 1982 Millard caravan, which they bought from a Longreach police officer, for over a year.

After successfully obtaining approvals from the local council and the state's Roads and Maritime Service to set up their business at the rest area, they revamped the caravan inside and out and installed new equipment to make a great coffee, they explained.

"The caravan only cost us $3000 but have put already five times that amount into it. We guess we have served up at least 22,000 coffees so far."

They said travellers really appreciated being able to get excellent quality coffee, which rivalled any sold in a big city.

"There's always plenty of room at the rest area for parking, walking the dog, giving the kids a run around ... and we are always up for a yarn," they said.

"Amazing what a small world it is out there!"
