CAIRNS Coconut Holiday Resort has been officially crowned Australia’s top tourist and caravan park for the seventh time.

The park, a member of the BIG4 chain, took home the Gold award for the second year running at the Australian Tourism Awards in Adelaide.

BIG4 chief executive Steven Wright said the holiday destination was highly deserving of the accolade and should be proud of its efforts in delivering a unique and memorable holiday experience.

The resort's team had "shone the brightest in providing the ultimate Australian break".

Its success was a great lead to follow, Mr Wright added.

Park manager Kim Thomas accepted the award, saying: "We are thrilled to receive this level of industry recognition."

He added: "The team is committed to continually developing accommodation and activities at our park for our guests to create great family holiday memories."

BIG4 parks filled the Top Tourist and Caravan Park category, with the silver award going to the Beacon Resort at Queenscliff in Victoria and bronze to the Deniliquin Holiday Park in NSW.

Ibis Styles Katherine in the Northern Territory, which has caravan sites for road trippers, won gold in the Standard Accommodation category.

Rawnsley Park Station in South Australia took home the Silver award for Unique Accommodation.

It offers camping facilities and cabins in the form of Eco Villas.

Capricorn Caves in Queensland seized Bronze in the Tourist Attractions category.

They have a plethora of accommodation types, including camping options for guests to immerse themselves in the breathtaking tourist site.

Caravan Industry Association of Australia chief executive Stuart Lamont said the industry was "very pleased" to see great caravanning and camping accommodation providers recognised in their category and beyond.

"More and more we are seeing parks innovate to create memorable experiences for the millions of Australians who go caravanning and camping each year," he said.

"It's great to have industry recognition for the improved capacity and increased quality in the product the parks are bringing to tourism in Australia."
