WHEN it comes to loyalty and helpfulness, a couple who run a popular caravan park on the banks of the Murray River in Victoria are tops.

And the owners of the four-star, 178-site Swan Hill Riverside Caravan Park, Phillip and Barbara Camm, now have a premier award to prove it.

They have received the coveted Top Tourist Parks of Australia's Hugh Diedrich Award for their outstanding contributions to the chain.

The Camms, already proud recipients of a Swan Hill Regional Business Award for Excellence, were lauded at the Top Tourist Parks conference on the Gold Coast for their 25-year commitment to the organisation.

Top Tourist Parks of Australia chief executive officer Bill Pycroft said the gong recognised their exceptional effort over the long-haul for the benefit of Top Tourist Park members.

Philip and Barbara first became associated with the chain when they were operating the Hay Caravan Park in New South Wales.

At the 1991 annual general meeting, Philip took on the role as treasurer, a position he held until he stood down in 1998.

During this time, the couple made the move from Hay to Swan Hill.

While Philip was busy assisting with the early days of developing the Top Tourist organisation, Barbara had the role of running the park and raising the family.

Over many years, both Philip and Barbara have been mentors to many people who have entered the caravan park industry.

They plan to retire in July.

The award is named after former Top Tourist chairman Hugh Diedrich who died while operating Echuca Caravan Park with wife Jenny.
