NOVEMBER 29:
Customline Caravans, which hit the market three years ago and was founded by the former owners of failed Galaxy Caravans, has nosedived. Members of the company met on November 27 and decided it should be wound up. Bryan Webster & Rahul Goyal of Melbourne-based advisory and investment firm KordaMentha have been appointed liquidators. Customline's Mark Burns told Caravanning News after its launch in 2015 that he was looking at producing high quality caravans with new features. Mr Burns said Galaxy was put into receivership after debtors failed to pay what was owed to the company. "Due to that we lost our beloved Galaxy brand name," he said. "But we as family have moved onwards and upwards. We have started our new journey again to rebuild caravans, with fresh new exciting ideas."

NOVEMBER 29:
Creditors of family-owned and operated Colorado Caravans, which is in voluntary administration, will hold a second meeting on December 4 to discuss the company's future. The Victorian manufacturer, which began business about 10 years ago, is among several caravan companies to hit troubled times in the last few weeks. Owner and managing director Jim Moutsia has told Caravanning News that it was hoped to save the business. "We are doing all we can to continue into the future," he said. The creditors' meeting will be held at the offices of SV Partners Insolvency in Melbourne.

NOVEMBER 28:
Police have urged owners to secure their caravans after a Jayco was stolen from outside premises in West Mackay, Queensland. "Some effort is being made by thieves in Mackay to target caravans of late," Senior Constable Steve Smith said today. "Police are encouraging caravan owners to secure their 'vans as best as possible." The 2016 Jayco Starcraft's trailer lock was no deterrent to the thieves who struck in George Milton Street between 7.30am and 4pm yesterday. The caravan is white in colour and carried the registration number 431 UEE. "Anyone who has information about the stolen caravan's current location or the offence itself is encouraged to contact police as soon as possible," Sen Const Smith said. Thieves made off with a 22ft Jayco Silverline caravan after loading it onto a tilt tray truck. The brazen theft happened in West Wodonga between 1am and 4am and was caught on CCTV. The caravan has a slide-out lounge, grey and timber interior and carried Victorian registration number W64836.

UPDATE: Police said Mr Cassell found "safe and well" but gave no further details.

Queensland police have appealed for help in their search for a missing 74-year-old caravanner. Kenneth Cassell (pictured) was last seen on November 1 at Tamborine when he was to travel to Paddys Flat in New South Wales to camp for two weeks. Police and family hold concerns for his welfare as he has not made contact with family and suffers from a medical condition. Mr Cassell is described as Caucasian, 170cm tall, of proportionate build with tanned skin and brown eyes. He is likely to be travelling in a black Suzuki Jimny with Queensland registration plates 352WRV and towing an Avan Sportsliner caravan (pictured). NOVEMBER 17:
Gidget Retro Teardrop Camper manufacturer Glenn Stuart Wills has been ordered to pay more than $1 million in fines, compensation and court costs following an Office of Fair Trading investigation. He was found guilty in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this week of seven counts of receiving payment for campervans but failing to supply them within a reasonable time, in breach of the Australian Consumer Law. His company collapsed earlier this year and Mr Wills was declared bankrupt.

NOVEMBER 17:
BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort scooped gold in last night's Queensland Tourism Awards' caravan and holiday parks category. The Gold Coast Holiday Park received silver while the BIG4 Ingenia Holiday Cairns Coconut Resort won bronze. The Rivershore Resort on the Sunshine Coast was highly commended.

NOVEMBER 17:
Creditors of troubled Billabong Custom Caravans will hold their second meeting in Melbourne on November 26. Founded 12 years ago and with nationwide outlets, the Campbellfield-based manufacturer of quality, handmade custom caravans went into voluntary administration last month. The meeting will be held at 2pm at the offices of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand in Bourke Street.

Queensland's peak motoring body, the RACQ, welcomes new "lemon laws" which will protect carvanners and other RV buyers from shoddy RV manufacturers and dealers.

NOVEMBER 16:
The Australian Caravan Club fears there will be repercussions in the wake of an Environment and Planning Court ruling that free camping at Rockhampton's Kershaw Gardens is illegal. Caravanners and other RVers will not be allowed to stay overnight from February 15 next year. The 4600-member club today called on the Queensland Government to convene a round table meeting of stakeholders, including relevant RV consumer organisations, to "work collaboratively to ensure appropriate strategies are developed for regional and rural areas to continue to attract RV travellers who may now bypass these areas as a result of the decision". The court case was brought by the Caravan Parks Association of Queensland. Caravanning Queensland general manager of parks Michelle Weston said the association was pleased with the decision, which had provided certainty to its members in the Rockhampton region. "The association was always of the view that the accommodation use of Kershaw Gardens went beyond the ordinary use of a park," she said. "The fact that the accommodation offered was provided free of charge was detrimentally impacting the business of our members. In light of the continuation of this unlawful development and in the interest of our members, including local caravan park operators, we were left with little alternative but to take legal action."

The Caravan Parks Association of Queensland has won its legal battle to ban free overnight camping at Rockhampton's Kershaw Gardens. The Environment and Planning Court today decided that camping is illegal and ruled that overnight stays must cease on February 15 next year and all signs removed.

A South Australian couple on a driving holiday scooped a cool $1m from last night's Lotto win ... and now plan to buy a caravan to make their travels more comfortable. The jubilant roving wife and husband, who wanted to remain anonymous, couldn't contain their jubilation after last night's win with a ticket they bought in Parkes (NSW). "We've been driving around seeing all these nice little caravans on the road, saying 'if we win Lotto, we’ll buy one of those', and look what happened!" they commented.

Two teenagers airlifted to hospital with serious burns after portable gas stove exploded at Queenscliff's BIG4 Beacon caravan park south-west of Melbourne. Two others suffered minor burns and taken by ambulance to Geelong University Hospital. The injured were understood to be on a school trip.

Retired couple Peter and Karyn Peeters plan to turn the former Queensland woodmill town of Allies Creek into a grey nomads' mecca. And members of the online Caravaners Forum have already welcomed the idea, saying they will definitely pay a visit. "We'll definitely be checking it out in the future," wrote one member. "Good on 'em, I say, I hope they are hugely successful!" The Peeters bought the tiny township about 400km northwest of Brisbane for a bargain price of $550,000 after previous owner Natali Williams, who wanted to convert it into a caravan park, abandoned the idea following the death of her husband. They say they will turn the town into a multi-million-dollar retro tourist attraction for tourists, caravanners and other RVers.

Queensland’s independent Coordinator-General has approved a $1.2 billion tourism project on Hummock Hill Island near Gladstone which will include tourist accommodation, holiday units and camping grounds for about 2700 people. It is the only substantial undeveloped island in the southern area of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park south of Shoalwater Bay.

Victoria's All Seasons Holiday Park in Mildura is building what it claims to be the first water park in Australia to have an activity tower with sky soaker ... and three waterslides. It will also feature mega soakers, spin sprays, splash blasters, water leaves, ground sprays and a double enclosed water-slide with wave catchers. It plans to have the attraction operational in time for the summer season. The park is part of the Top Parks chain.
