Police investigating accident in which motorcyclist died after collision with 4WD towing caravan on NSW's Oxley Hwy near Mount Seaview west of Wauchope. Meanwhile, elderly woman airlifted to Perth hospital with non life-threatening injuries after caravan and tow vehicle rolled near WA's Wheatbelt town of Quairading.

Smithfield police in far north Queensland are seeking public help to locate a Jayco camper trailer stolen from a council facility. Surprisingly, the crooks secured a fence which they damaged before making off with the Jayco from Dunne Road at around 2.40am on March 19. Police said they forced their way onto the property and hitched up the unregistered white and yellow camper trailer to a station wagon. Fifteen-year-old boy arrested and charged after break-ins at Woree caravan park in Cairns. The teenager faces nine counts including burglary, stealing and unlawful use of motor vehicle.

An exploding gas bottle is believed to have caused a blaze which destroyed caravan in Helen Street, Merewether, NSW, overnight. No one injured.

MARCH 19:
Investigations were continuing today after police shot dead a 50-year-old man at a caravan park north of Brisbane yesterday. The shooting happened after two officers were confronted by the knife-wielding man at the Endeavour Village caravan park in Deception Bay. Multiple shots were fired as he allegedly lunged at them. Inspector Craig White said a male officer received a minor cut during the confrontation. "It's a terrible tragedy for all concerned," he said. The incident is being investigated by the police Ethical Standards Command.

MARCH 18:
Gates at Jurgens Australia caravan factory in Victoria were locked today. About 50 staff who turned up for work  had to return home. Reports claim there is dispute with the property's landlords. Sign on the fence at the Pakenham works refers to "termination of leases". Calls to the factory from Caravanning News went unanswered and dealers reported being "in the dark" over the situation. "All we know is that there is a dispute with the landlords," one said. Meanwhile, Supreme Court list shows a Jurgens Australia case was lodged on March 7 involving alleged failure to comply with a "statutory demand". The case is listed as still "open". No further details given.

MARCH 18:
Rogue travellers have forced Byron Bay Shire Council in NSW to take action to prevent illegal camping at its Butler Street Reserve. It has installed steel gates which will be locked every night from March 25. Penalties will apply for people still parked in the reserve after 9pm. There will be signs bearing a telephone number for people to call if they do get locked in ... but a fee for letting them out could apply. The move follows complaints from local residents.

Discovery Parks' newly opened Rottnest Island eco-resort was feeling somewhat starstruck this week. Hollywood's Chris Hemsworth and his family dropped in and were among the first guests to stay in one of the superior family tents. Matt Damon visited for the day and Boomtown Rats lead singer Sir Bob Geldof also made an appearance.

Aspen Group, which operates a chain of holiday and lifestyle parks, has decided that neither Mill Hill Capital nor Discovery Holiday Parks will take a hand in externally managing the group, saying the idea was unlikely to receive shareholder approval. "The only executable option available for Aspen Group at this time is to remain internally managed." chairman Clive Appleton said in a statement.

Woman rushed to hospital after vehicle and caravan accident on Queensland's Burnett Highway near Goomeri today. Meanwhile, emergency services at scene of a car and caravan rollover on NSW's Mid Western Highway about 10km west of Rankin Springs. No further details available.

MARCH 13:
Joel Cann, chief executive of the Aspen Group which operates a chain of holiday and lifestyle parks, has resigned "to persue another opportunity". His resignation will take effect on April 12. Mr Cann will be joining Blue Sky Alternative Investments as chief executive. He has a 20-year career in senior executive positions within global financial services businesses. Before taking on the role of Aspen's chief executive, he was the founding managing director of AMB Capital Partners, a diversified private investment company funded by an Australian family office which focused on property and property-related businesses.

MARCH 12:
Victorian hikers Trevor Salvado (60) and partner Jacinta Bohan (58) who went missing after leaving the NRMA Bright Holiday Park in Bright on March 8 were found safe and well at Buffalo River today. They were located by a kayaker shortly after 11am near Buffalo River Road and taken to hospital for observations. They said they became lost and survived on Muesli bars. Meanwhile, police have thanked all emergency service workers, members of the public and the media for their ongoing support during the mammoth search.

Police are looking for bumbling bandits who attempted to rob a caravan north of Brisbane. The gained access by climbing through an unlocked window of the RV at a caravan park on Deception Bay Road, Deception Bay. But the clumsy raiders knocked over a table and made a quick exit by climbing through the same window. Police said it was unknown if anything was stolen but a forensic examination had been conducted and investigations were continuing.

Police have appealed for help in tracing a couple who disappeared after leaving a Victorian caravan park. Sixty-year-old Trevor Salvado and Jacinda Bohan (58) from Essendon have not been seen since leaving the NRMA Bright Holiday Park in Bright on 8 March. Their fawn coloured Skoda Yetu was located near Reservoir Track on Mount Buffalo on March 9 but the pair could not be located. Police and family hold concerns for their welfare as their disappearance is out of character. Mr Salvado is described as about 183cm tall and of medium build. He has short grey hair, blue eyes, grey moustache and a fair complexion. Ms Bohan is about 170cm tall with a thin build, light brown/blonde short hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. B J Saggers Investments trading as Brisbane RVs has hit troubled times with Worrells Solvency & Forensic Accountants being appointed administrators. One report claims the long-established family-owned business alongside the Bruce Hwy at Burpengary has debts running into millions of dollars. Brisbane RVs is a major agent for Lotus, Paramount, Nova, Fortitude and Golden Eagle caravans. It also boasts of usually having over 50 used RVs for sale. Jeff and Karyn Realph told Caravanning News they were among the unfortunate customers who had paid large deposits to Brisbane RVs for their dream caravan. "There needs to be changes from the governing authorities in regards to how deposits are handled by the dealers and manufacturers," they said. "This occurrence of people losing their deposit in this industry is becoming far too common and needs to be addressed urgently." Requests for a statement from the administrators and Brisbane RVs went unanswered.

Fleetwood, former manufacturers of Windsor and Coromal caravans, today announced the "second completion" of the brands' sale to Apollo Tourism and Leisure. It expects to receive $11.2 million in cash for raw materials and trading stock before the end of the current financial year.

MARCH 3:
Council-owned Williams River Holiday Park in NSW's Hunter Valley just north of Newcastle has closed. The sudden decision to turn away campers this weekend has shocked locals. The popular riverside spot has attracted generations of holidaymakers. It reported there were concerns over flooding and fire risks at the park, a major contributor to the small town's economy. About a hundred local residents and business owners held a protest rally calling on the council to issue a report on the closure.

MARCH 3:
Police are investigating a crash on NSW's notorious Mooney Mooney Bridge in which caravan and its tow vehicle rolled. No other vehicles were involved and the caravanners reportedly suffered only minor injuries. One Facebook report of the accident, which happened on the southbound lanes of the M1 Pacific Motorway on Feb 28, attracted nearly 500 comments and was shared over 200 times. Postings re-ignited the call for special licences for people towing caravans. Janelle Richardson wrote: "Is this bridge cursed or what?" while Allan Hams and others wanted to know why there was no special course or licence to tow a caravan.

BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort in Queensland was named the country's best park after winning Gold in the caravan and holiday parks category at last night's Regional Tourism Awards in Launceston, Tasmania. Five other parks were vying for the coveted title. They were the BIG4Great Lakes at Forster-Tuncurry (NSW), BIG4 Hahndorf Resort (SA), BIG4 Inverloch Holiday Park (VIC), RAC Cervantes Holiday Park (WA) and the NRMA Port Holiday Park (TAS).
