 Attendance almost matches all-time record

Bendigo show attracts over
14,000 fans for fourth time

Have your say

THE Caravan and Camping Leisurefest at Bendigo, Victoria, attracted more than 14,000 visitors for the fourth time in five years, organisers have revealed.

A total of 14,100 people flocked to the local racecourse to see – and in many cases buy – the latest in caravanning and camping gear.

Caravan Industry Association of Victoria (CIA Vic) chief executive Robert Lucas said the attendance almost matched the all-time record.

"Increased display space and new exhibitors gave a fresh new look to a show that people already love for its impressive range of exhibits and beautiful setting," he said.

"This year we had several show debuts, from caravans, campers and accessories to the new Kui Parks group of nomad-friendly caravan parks.

"As usual, the seminars were extremely popular, with our presenters striking just the right balance of information and entertainment."

Mr Lucas said a sentimental highlight was the donation of $5000 to Bendigo District RSL to support its welfare work for the veterans of all the conflicts in which Australians have served.

"Our exhibitors all agreed there is no more worthy cause than the RSL," he said.

"It was summed up by one who came up to the RSL president, Cliff Richards, simply said 'good on you' and shook his hand – it clearly meant a lot."

Mr Lucas said CIA Vic's focus now was on the Victorian Caravan Camping & Touring Supershow, which moves to Melbourne Showgrounds for 2015 on the new dates of 11-16 February.

The RV & Camping Leisurefest will return to Bendigo next year on November 20-22.
