Up to 800 caravans expected at major event

State beefs up rally organisers' funds with $50,000 cash grant

ORGANISERS of a giant caravan rally in the beef capital of Queensland have successfully applied for a cash grant from the State Government.

Up to 800 caravans are expected to descend on Rockhampton for the Combined Caravan Clubs of Queensland's 15th national rally in 2013.

And local Member for Rockhampton Robert Schwarten took up the organisers' request for financial support with Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser, who has now agreed to contribute $50,000.

Mr Schwarten said the Treasurer had recognised the economic benefits of staging such an important event in the city.

"The caravan market is an important contributor to tourism in regional Queensland and the Queensland Government is pleased to be able to assist in the hosting of the rally," he said.

"Grey nomads, as they are affectionately known, will directly and indirectly create jobs and bring money to the area."

The rally will be held at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.
