AS caravan thefts continue to increase, a leading RV components company has announced the release of a state-of-the-art tracking system.

The new $599 AL-KO Anti-Theft System (ATS) incorporates up-to-the-minute GPS and NanoTag® microdot technology to provide ultimate, multi-level theft protection.

"AL-KO has responded to recent reports indicating that caravan theft is a significant and growing problem in Australia," marketing services manager Brad Hooper said.

"With their high value, caravans are prime targets for thieves and it is estimated that around 500 caravans are reported stolen each year in Australia."

In developing the ATS kit, his company collaborated with Black Knight Global Tracking Systems to include a world first, purposely-designed GPS global tracking device utilising state-of-the-art M2M (machine-to-machine) connectivity powered by the Vodafone network.

"M2M technology is the next generation in global positioning system connectivity," Mr Hooper explained.

Unlike devices requiring a SIM card and mobile 'phone plan with data limits, the in-built M2M connectivity chip provides instant global connectivity in over 200 countries with unlimited data, no roaming charges and no hidden fees.

And with no removable SIM card, the Black Knight boasts a further security feature – it cannot be re-used or re-tasked if stolen.

The product comes bundled with 12 months connectivity upon purchase.

Users can download and utilise a free app (available for iPhone or Android) to receive alerts or track their journey via their smartphone.

An innovative "Geofence" feature promptly alerts the vehicle owner if it breaches a defined location radius.

In addition to the GPS tracking device, ATS kit also includes a high-security tagging wand from NanoTag® Technology.

The wand allows you to covertly tag your vehicle and belongings with microscopic NanoTag microdots – your very own DNA fingerprint that enables you to prove ownership to the police in the event of theft.

The AL-KO ATS is now available as an option on new caravans, and as a retail product via a network of AL-KO authorised resellers.

AL-KO is now rolling out a national network of AL-KO authorised dealers, and the product will also soon be available as a feature for new caravans.
