NT holiday ends in tragedy Crash boy survivor may
have brain damage AN eight-year-old boy, badly injured in a Northern Territory caravan crash in which his father died, is still recovering in hospital. Aiden Halstead's father Peter, 47, was at the wheel of the family's Landcruiser which collided with a Toyota Hilux hauling a trailer on a remote section of the Stuart Highway, about 40km south of Larrimah. The boy's 44-year-old mother Julie and 11-year-old brother Harrison were also hurt. Witnesses said it was a miracle anyone escaped the October crash alive. Aiden was trapped upside down in the mangled wreckage and was cut free by emergency workers. He was rushed to Royal Darwin Hospital with serious head injuries and a broken leg but later transferred to St Margaret's Hospital in Perth. Relatives said the boy had no recollection of the horrific crash and may have suffered brain damage. The family, from Broome in Western Australia, had been on a caravan holiday in the NT.
Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl died and two people were seriously injured when a car
collided with a caravan being towed by a tractor near Myalup, north of
Bunbury in WA.
Police said the girl was thrown from the vehicle and received serious head
injuries. She died at the scene. BACK TO CARAVANNING NEWS MAIN PAGE
