Major new environmental
initiative Green scheme set for blast off at club muster and AGM THE Australian Caravan Club will launch a major new environmental initiative this month. Caravanners from all over Australia will converge on Casino in New South Wales for the club's second National Muster and Annual General Meeting from September 24 to 28. They will be asked to endorse ACCESS – the Australian Caravan Club Environmentally Safe Scheme. Club chairman Lionel Mussell explained that it was a voluntary code of conduct for members with caravans which could be classed as "fully self-contained and which leave no impact on the environment". Members subscribing to the code would display an ACCESS sticker on their caravans and carry a copy of the code to show anyone in authority asking to see it. "I welcome this initiative," Mr Mussell said. "It shows that our members are responsible citizens who care about the world in which we live." The club says it recognises that many members prefer to use caravan parks but some opted for independent campsites and so it formed an Independent Camping Committee to look after that side of things and to liaise with local councils and other bodies to ensure the needs of these caravanners are met. The National Muster and Annual General Meeting will be held at the Casino Village RV Resort in northern NSW. Formed just two years ago, the Australian Caravan Club already boasts nearly 700 members and says that presenting a united voice for caravanners and camper-trailer owners is one of its major aims. Featuring a mix of social activities, educational seminars, trade exhibits and a business session, the muster promises an exciting and rewarding few days for members and an invitation is extended to any interested people or travellers in the region to join in and find out what the club is all about.
