AUSTRALIA'S leading chain of caravan parks has joined the battle to entice holidaymakers back to cyclone and flood-ravaged Queensland.

The news comes on the back of a new government campaign aimed at reviving the state's battered and bruised tourism industry which took a devastating hammering from Mother Nature.

Caravan parks on the eastern seaboard took a pounding in the worst summer weather for decades, with many reporting massive numbers of worried people cancelling bookings as far ahead as next year.

But in a bid to reverse the trend, BIG4 Holiday Parks has announced that member parks in Queensland will offer caravanners and other travellers six nights for the price of four until June 10.

Marketing manager Kari Hunter told Caravanning News: "Given the tough time Queensland has experienced recently, we wanted to offer a promotion to support the region, promote tourism and reassure holidaymakers they will still get the exceptional holiday experience that Queensland is famous for."

She said the majority of BIG4 caravan and tourist parks were not affected during recent floods and visitors could expect them to be in "pristine condition" and offering the same range of facilities and activities the group was well known for.

Parks offering the special deal include:

BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort, Airlie Beach

BIG4 Airlie Cove Resort and Van Park, Airlie Beach,

BIG4 Atherton Woodlands Tourist Park, Atherton.

BIG4 Brisbane Northside Caravan Village, Brisbane.

Brisbane Gateway Resort, Brisbane.

BIG4 Cane Village Holiday Park, Bundaberg.

BIG4 Cairns Crystal Cascades Holiday Park, Cairns.

Aussie Outback Oasis Cabin and Van Village, Charters Towers.

BIG4 Maroochy Palms Holiday Village, Sunshine Coast.

Meanwhile, the latest government initiative to attract the tourist dollar back to the Sunshine State, financed from a joint federal and state $10 million kitty, has adopted the slogan Nothing beats Queensland as its war cry.

Premier Anna Bligh said it would be one of the biggest campaigns Australia had ever seen.

She told parliament: "Nothing beats Queensland is the message that will be promoted to Australia and the world as part of this tourism strategy.

"The campaign will harness the unbeatable Queensland spirit.

"Just as these disasters have not beaten us ... we aim to tell the world that nothing beats Queensland, nothing beats our beaches, nothing beats our rainforest, nothing beats our Great Barrier Reef and nothing beats a Queensland holiday."
